Indian Railways will begin passenger train services! In great relief to people across the country, Indian Railways has decided to partially resume passenger train services beginning May 12. Reservations for special trains that will travel to the main stations, with selective stops, will start from 4 PM onwards on May 11. To begin, the national carrier will begin passenger train operations with 15 pairs of trains, meaning 30 trips, including return trips. A rail ministry official told Financial Express Online that passenger trains will only have AC carriages to begin with and the fare structure will be similar to that of Rajdhani Express trains.
According to Indian Railways, these trains will run from the New Delhi railway station to the following destinations:
- Dibrugarh
- Grab her
- Howrah
- Patna
- Bilaspur
- Ranchi
- Bhubaneswar
- Secunderabad
- Bangalore
- Chennai
- Thiruvananthapuram
- Madgaon
- Central mumbai
- Ahmedabad
- Jammu Tawi
Passengers who wish to travel on these special trains can only book tickets on the IRCTC website (https://www.irctc.co.in/). The national carrier also said that ticket reservation counters at all railway stations will remain closed. Counter tickets, including platform tickets, will not be sold at rail stations. All passengers on these 15 pairs of special service trains will be required to wear a face mask / mask and will be required to undergo a screening upon departure. Only asymptomatic passengers may travel on trains.
Indian Railways aims to start more special train services with tickets reserved for passengers. This will be done after reserving 20,000 trainers as isolation centers for COVID-19 patients and taking into account the possible requirement for 300 special Shramik special trains for stranded migrants daily.
Indian Railways had suspended all passenger train operations during the ongoing national blockade. Although the national blockade is until May 17, the national carrier has made the important decision to partially resume operations of the passenger train 5 days before that.
