According to PIB, these trains will be in addition to the 30 existing Rajdhani special trains and the 200 Special Mail Express trains that are already operating. The railways began operating these special trains after regular services were suspended in March due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and the subsequent lockdown.
Passengers can book tickets for these new special trains through the official website as well as the IRCTC mobile app or from the reservation desk at train stations.
The railways have forced passengers traveling on these trains to cover their mouths and noses with face masks at the station premises, as well as during the journey to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Passengers must arrive at the station at least 90 minutes before the scheduled departure of the trains and undergo a thermal check. Only those who do not show any symptoms of Covid-19 will be able to travel on these special trains.
The 80 new trains are being introduced with the migrant workers now traveling back to their workplaces in mind, as the unlocking has entered phase four in September.
