Indian Railways is ready to obtain a new 9000HP WAG-9HH electric locomotive that was manufactured at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW).
The locomotive has successfully passed the swing and EBD test conducted by the Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO). RDSO has issued the final speed certificate for the operation of the WAG-9HH locomotive class up to a maximum speed of 100 kmph on the Indian Railways track. Now, after obtaining the legal sanction from CRS, it will be put into service. CLW produced this high-powered locomotive on December 12, 2019.
The trials were conducted in the Indian Railways North Rail area between January 31, 2020 and February 26.
According to the officials of the Ministry of Railways, the locomotive is equipped with modern and advanced features and there has been an improvement in the power of the WAP-7 and WAG-9 locomotive from 6,000 HP to 9,000 HP.
“The upgrade for high power equipment includes a traction converter, transformer, traction motor, bogie, and body,” he said.
Highlighting the characteristics of the new locomotive, the official said, it has a better acceleration reserve at higher speeds and higher performance.
The 9,000 HP freight locomotive has increased line capacity and proper train power, the official said.
Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, located in West Bengal, produced 402 locomotives in fiscal year 2018-19. CLW broke its own production record of 350 locomotives they had built during the 2017-18 year.
Also in the current year, CLW already manufactured 350 locomotives on January 31, 2020, in 10 months in 250 business days of the current fiscal year.
The business days to achieve this crazy number 350 have been reduced from 299 days in the 2017-18 year to 250 days in the current 2019-20 fiscal year.
