Lockie Ferguson’s two wickets in the Super Over, plus three at regular time, helped Kolkata Knight Riders prevail over SunRisers Hyderabad on Sunday in Abu Dhabi after the game ended in a draw. Ferguson kicked SRH skipper David Warner for nothing and Abdul Samad for two in the Super Over, and KKR captain Eoin Morgan and former captain Dinesh Karthik approached the three-run goal with three balls to spare. In his 20 allotted overs, SRH finished 163 for six, as many as KKR got in the first innings while losing just five wickets. Warner hit magnificently for his unbeaten 47-for-33 that included three limits in the final half off Andre Russell, who had been suffering a hamstring injury and was limping throughout his career.
SRH shuffled his batting lineup with Kane Williamson (29) leading off the batting alongside Jonny Bairstow (36). The duo got SRH’s 164 chase off to a good start, adding 57 runs in the first six overs,
Ferguson brought KKR back into the contest by sending back Williamson and then Priyam Garg (4), who was promoted to No. 3.
Captain Warner came in at four and stayed until the end, but lacked support at the other end when Bairstow fell to Varun Chakravarthy at 10.th and Manish Pandey (6) was released by Ferguson in the 12th to tip the balance towards KKR.
When Vijay Shankar set off cheaply for seven, leaving SRH reeling at 109/5 in the 16th finished, KKR seemed to be in full control.
However, Warner and Abdul Samad (23 of 15 balls) had other plans as they led the game to the final two overs.
Samad fell in the late 19th more, but Warner made full use of a final over thrown by a Russell to less than 100 percent and helped SRH tie the game.
Previously, Warner asked KKR to hit and for a large part of the innings it looked like they would finish under par.
However, a late push from Morgan (34 of 23) and Karthik (29 of 14) helped them surpass their 160 total.
Shubman Gill (36 of 37) looked out of color even as Rahul Tripathi (23 of 16) and Nitish Rana (29 of 20) seemed to raise the ante but were unable to anchor the innings.
For KKR, Ferguson was the bowlers’ choice with 3-for-15 figures in four overs plus two wickets in the Super Over.
Chakravarthy, Shivam Mavi, and Pat Cummins each returned with a wicket.
Rashid Khan returned 1-for-28 for SRH, while Vijay Shankar was the cheapest at 1-for-20 in four overs.
