Ben Stokes and Yuvraj Singh are left-handed hitters who can also bowl. However, Yuvraj imagines putting himself in the league of “bowlers who can hit,” as he told Stokes when the latter expressed his bewilderment over the fact that Sunil Narine was promoted ahead of Eoin Morgan by Kolkata Knight Riders ( KKR) in his batting order against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday. “Narine before Morgan?” is what Stokes tweeted. Yuvraj had a cheeky response mixed with some self-deprecating humor. “Yes, it’s like yuvraj before stokes! Sometimes you have to let the off-roaders go first, the bowlers who can hit before a suitable batter to fight, ”Yuvraj replied.

While the language “Yuvraj before Stokes” for “Narine before Morgan” can be debated, KKR’s move was a bit surprising.

Narine, who usually opens for KKR, was pushed to No. 3 with Rahul Tripathi taking the opening spot with Shubman Gill.

Narine was expected to be used as a float or even in death as a finisher, but KKR thought otherwise by sending him on the first try and Morgan followed Narine at No. 4.

However, Morgan also tends to hit in the middle order for England, and therefore KKR’s move was understandable.

Stokes is in the UAE and is in quarantine after being late for the IPL. She was in New Zealand with her sick father.

Promoted

Stokes’ team, the Rajasthan Royals, need the presence of England’s all-rounder in their line-up, as they have slipped to seventh after losing three of their five matches so far.

The 29-year-old has 635 runs and 26 wickets from 34 games in the IPL, having made his debut in 2017.
