Indian Muslim Clerics Declare Pork Jelly Covid-19 Vaccine Not Admissible, Call It Haraam

Muslim clerics at a gathering of Sunni Muslim ulama in Mumbai yesterday (Dec 23) decided that a Chinese Covid-19 vaccine containing pork jelly is Haraam (forbidden) for Muslims, India today has reported.

“There are reports of a Chinese vaccine with pig body parts. As the pig is Haram for Muslims, a vaccine containing the parts of its body cannot be allowed. Even if a pig hair falls into a well, the water from that well is prohibited for Muslims. Therefore, according to Islamic law, a vaccine containing pig gelatin cannot act as a treatment against any disease, “said the secretary general of the Raza Academy, Saeed Noorie.

Incidentally, this development comes after the UAE’s top Islamic authority, the Fatwa Council of the UAE, ruled that coronavirus vaccines are allowed for Muslims even if they contain pork jelly.

“Vaccination against the coronavirus is classified as preventive drugs for individuals, as recommended by the Islamic faith, particularly in times of pandemic disease when the healthy are prone to infection due to the high risk of contracting the disease, which represents a risk for the whole society. “said the UAE Council.

The Fatwa Council added that although the vaccine in question contains non-halal ingredients prohibited by Islam, it is allowed to use it in implementation of the Islamic rule that allows the use of such products in case there are no alternatives.
