The Biden-Harris ticket has defeated incumbent President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in a close election that attracted a record number of Americans to cast their votes.

“This is a great day (for American Indians),” Silicon Valley Indian-American and Indiaspora founder M Rangaswami told PTI shortly after major American media outlets declared Biden, 77, as the next president and Harris, 56, as the next vice president of the country.

“Joe Biden has a long history of supporting closer ties with India. As a senator, he led the effort to pass the civil nuclear deal between the United States and India. As vice president, he not only visited India, but was also instrumental in having India designated as a “senior defense partner” of the United States. It supports a permanent seat for India on the UN Security Council, ”Rangaswami said.

“Who would have thought that Indian Americans, a very young immigrant community in the oldest democracy in the world, would have a vice president in such a short time? It is beyond our wildest imagination, but this is the American Dream! That is why immigrants come to the United States, ”Rangaswami said in response to a question.

The community will have direct representation in the executive branch with Vice President-elect Harris, who will be the first black woman to hold the post, said Neha Dewan, Biden’s South Asia National Director.

“Biden’s South Asians are delighted to celebrate the hard-fought victory won by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris in this election,” he said.

“The American patriots have got their country back,” Preet Bharara tweeted. Describing it as a truly historic election, Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, said that Biden’s victory, Harris was fueled by one of the most diverse coalitions in history, with apparent impressive victories from Georgia to Arizona. and the Midwest.

“This is a truly historic election. More Americans voted in this election than any other, and President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris have received more votes than any other presidential nomination in our country’s history. For the first time, we will also have a woman of color and a daughter of immigrants rise to the second-highest office in the country, ”Tanden said.

Tanden said Americans have chosen to relegate Trump’s toxic legacy to the past and instead create a new government that seeks to bring people together rather than divide them, as well as one that more closely reflects the diversity of the American people.

“Voters chose a progressive vision, in favor of a strong and united response to the coronavirus; an inclusive economy; more affordable and accessible health care; better infrastructure; and climate resilience. That more progressive vision also seeks to finally address the sad history and continuing challenges of injustice and racial inequality, ”he said.

“This is truly a remarkable victory for the future of America, our democracy, and the entire South Asian community. That the Biden-Harris ticket toppled a sitting president is a historic feat and represents a compelling repudiation of President Trump and his abhorrent worldview, ”Dewan said.

“Early indications are that our diverse South Asian community played a critical role in this victory not only by voting in unprecedented numbers, but also by doing the work of organizing the community to make this outcome more likely,” he said. Dewan.
