NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said on Saturday that India will not face a serious COVID-19 coronavirus situation in some developed countries. However, the Minister of Health said that the country is prepared for the worst case scenario.

“It is not necessary to anticipate the worst situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in India as in developed countries, but we have still prepared the whole country for the worst situation,” said Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

The Minister of Health made this observation while interacting with the Ministers of Health and high officials of the states of the Northeast on the current situation of COVID-19 through videoconference.

Vardhan said India is improving its battle against COVID-19. “Our mortality rate in the country continues at around 3.3% and the recovery rate has risen to 29.9%, these are very good indicators. The doubling rate for the last 3 days has been around 11 days, for the last 7 days it’s been 9.9 days, “he said.

“We have dedicated 843 hospitals exclusively for the treatment of patients with COVID-19, which have around 1.65,991 beds for it. Throughout the country, there are 1, 991 dedicated COVID-19 health centers that have 1,35, 643 beds. These beds include insulation as well as ICU beds, “he added.

Vardhan said the Ministry of Health is continually coordinating with states and monitoring the data daily.

“There are 7,645 quarantine centers across the country. We have distributed 69 lakhs of N-95 masks to various state governments. The center has distributed a total of 32.76 lakhs of PPE to state governments. We started from a testing laboratory in Pune and now we have more than 453 laboratories in the country, “he said.

“Last night we evaluated data from various states and found that only 0.38 percent of patients were on respirators. 1.88 percent required oxygen and 2.21 percent were in ICU beds. “he added. The Minister of Health said that India is ready for all eventualities.

“A total of 17,847 people recovered and returned to their homes. Our mortality rate is around 3.3 percent and the recovery rate has increased to 29 percent. These are very good indicators, “he added.
