HIGHLIGHT
- Ajinkya Rahane’s name was recorded on MCG’s honor board for the second time in her career.
- Rahane connected 112 victories against Australia in the Boxing Day test
- Rahane is the only second Indian hitter after Vinoo Mankad to reach 2 hundred in the MCG.
India’s alternate captain Ajinkya Rahane’s name appeared on the Melbourne Cricket Board honor board for the second time in his career. Rahane earned the honor after scoring a 112 in the Boxing Day Test win against Australia that concluded on Tuesday, December 29.
The Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) shared a video clip of an Australian ground crew inscribing their name on the prestigious board of honors. In particular, Rahane had first found his name on the honors board as early as 2014 when he reached 147 in a tied test at the MCG. Virat Kohli, who was not the captain at the time, had scored 169, so his name was recorded on the honor board for the first and only time.

Ajinkya rahane led from the front when India sealed an 8 wicket victory in the Boxing Day Test against Australia. It was a remarkable effort as India rebounded from the horrors of 36-all-out in Adelaide and dominated Australia in the 4 days of Test 2. Rahane’s 112 in the first innings helped India take a 131-run lead and eventually level the test series at 1-1.
Rahane sewed fifty-race bleachers with Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant before mounting a 100-race winning bleacher with Ravindra Jadeja. Rahane sold out at 112 after which India collapsed.
Rahane mustered his troops wonderfully well, while India brought out Australia for 195 and 200 in the two innings. India only had to chase 70 for the win in the later innings and the skipper remained undefeated at 26.
Rahane has become the second Indian batsman after Vinoo Mankad to score more than a hundred in the MCG. It has become a happy hunting ground for the Mumbai hitter who has scored 369 runs in 3 games with an average of over 70 in the iconic venue.
India will be encouraged to seal an unbeatable lead when the two teams meet in the New Years Test from January 7 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
