Josh Hazlewood took five of eight as Australia clinched an emphatic victory by eight wickets in three days in the first Test at Adelaide Oval on Saturday after dodging India 36, their lowest inning score in 88 years of test cricket.
Hazlewood and Pat Cummins (4-21) turned a tight test around in a devastating bowling spell to open the third day of the day-night test, smashing the much-vaunted Indian batting lineup in less than two hours.
Australia chased the goal of 90-race victory by defeating Matthew Wade (33) and Marnus Labuschagne (6) to take a 1-0 lead in the series with Tests to come in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
India has compiled its lowest total in men’s test entries (36); Additionally, it is also the lowest team total overall in the format on Australian soil (also 36 for South Africa v Australia, February 1932 in Melbourne)
This is the first time in 26 events that India has lost when Virat Kohli won the draw.
This is also the 35th time that India has lost the first test of a series (more than 2 tests) outside Asia; they ended up losing the series in 31 of those with three ending in a draw.
No batter reaches double figures in an inning. The highest score was 9 by Mayank Agarwal.
