Hitting great Sunil Gavaskar has backed Rohit Sharma to start alongside Mayank Agarwal, who has struggled in the ongoing test series, in Test 3 against Australia in Sydney.

Gavaskar believes that Agarwal should have another chance and should not be treated harshly due to his recent failures. Mayank Agarwal has not lived up to expectations, having scored just 31 runs in four innings of the Border Gavaskar series.

“Mayank Agarwal has shown a very good temper in the last year and a half. Look at the way he has batted against South Africa, these are tough times and all hitters go through a lean streak. I wouldn’t be hard on him and I’ll give him another. opportunity ” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.

Rohit Sharma is likely to complete his quarantine period on Tuesday, after which he will be allowed to train with the rest of the team in Melbourne. With 8 more days to go to the third round, Rohit may have enough time to get back on track and compete for the starting role.

“Let’s let Rohit and Mayank open in the third test match. This is what I would think. This is up to Mayank now, trying to reduce the recoil and maybe reduce the stance it has and seek to be better. At one stage it seemed like He would be the fastest Indian to get Test 1000 runs, but he hasn’t done it because he’s playing Australia’s fabulous new bowling, “added Gavaskar.

The third round between India and Australia will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from January 7.
