Former Indian cricket batsman and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar made a strong statement on Monday when he asked cricketers to follow strict protocols in place to combat Covid-19. Manjrekar’s comment comes after a video emerged of five Indian players dining inside a Melbourne restaurant on Friday. The whole episode has caused a lot of controversy with the participation of the two cricket tables. Things took a serious turn after a Queensland minister made a comment saying, “If the Indians don’t want to follow the rules, don’t come.”

“It’s pretty simple actually. Either discard yourself for selection or once selected respect the biobubble and strict protocols. I can’t have both, ”Manjrekar wrote on Twitter.

Earlier today, the BCCI said in a statement that Indian cricket team players and support staff underwent an RT-PCR test for Covid-19 on January 3, and all of them came back negative.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley on Monday dismissed reports that the touring group is reluctant to play the fourth test at Gabba due to strict quarantine rules there. He stated that the BCCI “fully supported” the quarantine requirements in Queensland.
“We speak with our counterparts at BCCI on a daily basis. We have not received anything formal from the BCCI to suggest anything other than their support. Both teams have wanted to play the schedule as we have established it, ”Hockley told the Australian media.
India and Australia are scheduled to play the third Round of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which begins on January 7.
