India vs Australia: Australians’ batting is 30 percent Warner’s, 30 percent Smith, 30 percent everyone else – Kris Srikkanth – cricket

Former India captain Kris Srikkanth feels that while Australia has a formidable bowling attack, when it comes to its hitting drive, it may not be that strong. Srikkanth acknowledges that the crux of Australia’s batting revolves around Steve Smith and David Warner, while the others comprise “30 percent” of its batting force.

Australia’s current squad is made up of young, promising hitters with little experience behind them and with Warner’s injury that forced him to miss the Boxing Day test starting Friday, the hitting department actually takes a hit. Warner and Smith are the only two senior players on the team, while Matthew Wade and Tim Paine have shown flashes of brilliance on the test front.

With Mitchell Marsh injured and his brother Shaun Marsh down, Australia has a promising but inexperienced hitting lineup. However, it is surprising that Srikkanth does not mention Marnus Labuschagne, who has already been labeled a ‘treadmill’ for Australia in his short test run thus far.

“Let’s not forget that the Australians’ hitting is not very good. I think the Australians’ hitting is 30 percent Warner, 30 percent Smith, everyone else put together is 30 percent. But bowling is very good. The Australian hitting is not very strong, ”Srikkanth told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Srikkanth weighed in on India’s performance in the first Test in Adelaide, which saw them being thrown by 36 and losing the match by eight wickets. Srikkanth admitted that India lacked intention, but also admitted that the team has what it takes to recover even in the absence of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami.

“I think Virat summed it up very well when he said the positive intention was missing. They got more in a shell, the Indians. I think the mentality was too defensive. They have to regroup. They should have a slightly more positive intention. The best way is to do it, ”added Srikkanth.

“But when you miss King Kohli, he will make it difficult for him, let’s be honest. And shami [as well]. But I’m sure they will go out and fight. Everyone [in India] he’s disappointed but then everyone has looked [to look at it] like a bad dream. “
