The decision to bring in Yuzvendra Chahal as a surrogate for concussion for off-roader Ravindra Jadeja became a big issue from the first Q20I between India and Australia. Jadeja was hit in the helmet by Mitchell Starc during the batting for India. However, the left-handed hitter got up quickly and resumed hitting. He was later seen also struggling with a hamstring discomfort, but kept hitting and broke 44 undefeated runs on 23 balls to help India to a good 161/7 total in 20 overs.
When India came out to defend the total, Jadeja was replaced by Chahal as a surrogate for concussion. When match referee David Boon told the Australian cricket team about the call, a visibly upset Australian coach, Justin Langer, was seen having an argument with Boon on the boundary line.

Chahal wove ball magic by posting 3/25 in his 4 overs as India beat Australia 11 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
When asked about the talk on the boundary ropes, Finch said the Australian team would never question a medical expert.
“They were letting us know that your doctor had ruled out Jadeja with a concussion and you are not challenging a medical expert in that regard,” Finch said.
Speaking about the mistakes made by the Australian team in the match, the Australian starter added: “We probably filtered too many runs at the end and then in the middle phase we had trouble heating the limits.
“Then as we chased, we didn’t hit too many limits in the six-plus period,” he further said.
