India will kick off its Australian tour with a three-match ODI series starting Friday, November 27, followed by as many T20Is and four tests.
The first two ODI will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (November 27 and 29) and the third at the Manuka Oval in Canberra (December 2). The ODI stage will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, in which Australia comes second, while the series will be India’s first in the competition.
In their last ODI series, Australia defeated world champions England on their own turf by a 2-1 margin, while India has a slight advantage over the hosts in the 50-plus format, with a 12- record. 10 in wins and losses against them the last five years.
The two teams will then compete in the three-game T20I series in Canberra (December 4) and Sydney (December 6.8). Australia is currently ranked No.1 in MRF Tires’ ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings and recorded a thrilling 2-0 away series win over India last year. India, however, has a 5-4 win-loss advantage over Australia in the last ten Q20s.
After the completion of the ODI and T20I, the two parties will kick off the famous Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is part of the ICC World Trials Championship. The first test will be a day / night event taking place December 17-21 at the Adelaide Oval. It will be the first time that India will play a day / night test away from home, adding historical significance to the contest.
This will be followed by a Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (December 26-30), Sydney Cricket Ground (January 7-11), while the final test will be played at Gabba (January 15-19). With India currently atop the World Test Championship table and Australia in second place, the series promises to be a thriller in Australia.
Australia is currently ranked # 1 in the ICC MRF Tires men’s test team rankings, however, India has won three of their previous four series against Australia, including a first victory in a test series on Australian soil in 2018. / 19.
