On Friday, India successfully tested its indigenous Rudram anti-radiation missile from a Sukhoi-30 fighter jet off the east coast. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed the missile. ‘Rudram’ is the country’s first indigenous anti-radiation missile for the Indian Air Force which has been developed by DRDO. The missile is built into the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet as a launch pad. It has the ability to vary ranges based on launch conditions, DRDO said.

“The new generation anti-radiation missile (Rudram-1), which is India’s first indigenous anti-radiation missile developed by DRDO India for the Indian Air Force, was successfully tested today at ITR, Balasore. Congratulations to DRDO and other stakeholders for this remarkable achievement, ”said Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

The missile is likely to integrate with Indian Force Sukhoi fighter jets once the missile is ready for induction. The missile was test fired at the Balasore integrated test range in Odisha around 10:30 am, PTI officials said.

In May last year, Indian Air successfully tested the aerial version of the BrahMos missile from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet. The BrahMos missile provides the IAF with a highly desired ability to strike from great ranges on any target at sea or on land with pinpoint accuracy day or night and in all weather conditions. The IAF is also integrating the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile into more than 40 Sukhoi fighter jets, which are aimed at bolstering the force’s overall combat capability.
