India successfully conducted a flight test of the supersonic missile-assisted torpedo launch (SMART) from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha on Monday.
All mission objectives, including missile flight to range and altitude, nose cone separation, torpedo launch, and speed reduction mechanism (VRM) deployment, were perfectly met in the test. flight, the Press Information Office, the government’s nodal agency. it said in a statement.

SMART is a missile-assisted launch of the light antisubmarine torpedo system for antisubmarine warfare (ASW) operations far beyond the range of torpedoes. This launch and demo are important in establishing ASW capabilities.
Dr. G Satheesh Reddy, President of DRDO, described SMART as a technology demonstration that changes the rules of the game in anti-submarine warfare.
Monday’s test comes after the DRDO successfully tested the laser-guided anti-tank guided missile on September 23 in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.
