India retains second place in ICC World Trials Championship standings | Cricket news

DUBAI: India remained in contention to compete in ICC final World Trials Championship next year after winning the Melbourne test which helped them retain their second place on the updated points table, released Wednesday.
India pocketed 30 points for their eight-wicket victory. They are in second place with 390 points and 72.2 percent of points (PCT).
Australia continues to rank first despite losing the Boxing Day event and the penalty for maintaining a slow excessive rate against India. They now have 322 points with 76.6 pct.

New Zealand consolidated its third place with a 101-race win over Pakistan in the first round on Wednesday. The Black Caps scored 60 points for the win and now have a 66.7 PCT.
“New Zealand remains in contention to reach the final of the ICC World Trials Championship, “International Cricket (ICC) tweeted on Wednesday.
England and Pakistan form the top five in the WTC points table.
The top two teams at the end of the league in percentage points will play the final. Each league series is worth 120 points, spread evenly over the number of games in a series, ranging from 60 in a two-round series to 24 for a five-round series.
Although India leads the number of points, the ICC last month modified the points system for the WTC due to the disruption of international cricket due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The factor that determines the final ranking is now percentage points.
