India on Tuesday rejected Pakistan’s claim that the Kashmir issue is one of the oldest disputes at the United Nations (UN) and said Islamabad should focus on the unfinished business of tackling terrorism.
In a video message on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the world body, Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi praised the UN’s achievements, but also referred to “flaws and shortcomings.”
“The organization is only as good as its member states want it to be. The Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Palestine disputes are the organization’s most notorious and longest-running disputes. The people of occupied J&K still await the fulfillment of the commitment that the UN made to grant them their right to self-determination, ”he said.
“Today, the UN is ridiculed as a talk. Their resolutions and decisions are mocked. International cooperation, especially in the Security Council, is at its lowest level, ”she added.

Exercising its “right of reply”, the Indian delegation to the UN responded shortly after. First Secretary Vidisha Maitra said India hoped that the General Assembly would “avoid another repetition of the baseless falsehoods that have now become a trademark of Pakistani interventions on such platforms” during the commemoration of a global milestone. shared.
“However, for a nation that lacks milestones, one can only hope for a blocked and blocked approach to reason, diplomacy and dialogue,” he said.
Turning to the specific reference to the Kashmir issue, Maitra said that Pakistan was interfering in the internal affairs of India.

“What we hear today is the endless made-up narrative presented by the representative of Pakistan on the internal affairs of India. We reject the malicious reference to J & K’s Union Territory (UT), which is an integral part of India, ”he said.
“If there is one issue that remains unfinished on the UN’s agenda, it is that of addressing the scourge of terrorism. Pakistan is globally recognized as the epicenter of terrorism, which by its own admission harbors and trains terrorists and hails them as martyrs and constantly persecutes their ethnic and religious minorities, ”he added.
Maitra said Pakistan “would do well to turn its attention inward to immediately address these pressing concerns rather than divert attention from them by misusing the UN platform.”
