The Union Ministry of Health attributed the lower number of deaths from Covid-19 to an improved medical infrastructure, a standardized treatment protocol in hospitals across the country, and increased testing to identify infected people early and isolate them.

“The improved medical infrastructure across the country, the implementation of the Center’s Standard Treatment Protocol by the states and territories of the Union, and the total dedication and commitment of physicians, paramedics, and frontline workers have led to a steady drop in the number of daily deaths and a persistent increase in the number of total recoveries, ”the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The number of active cases in India is 867,496. The number of active cases has been below 900,000 for nearly a month, government data shows, suggesting that the spread of the disease could finally stabilize in the country.

The five states with the highest case load (61% of active cases) are also recording at least half (54.3%) of total recoveries.

“The national recovery rate has increased even more to 86.17%. With increasing recoveries, India has maintained its world leading position with the maximum number of recovered cases. Eighty percent of new recovered cases are reported in ten states viz. Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh. Maharashtra leads the account with more than 26,000 new cases of recovered patients, “said the statement from the Ministry of Health.
