India registers 45,674 fresh Covid-19 infections in 24 hours, 9% less than yesterday


With 45,674 new cases and 559 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 count on Sunday surpasses 8.5 million (85,07,754). The number of active cases was further reduced to 5,12,665. The number of daily recoveries once again exceeded the number of daily infections. Compared to 45,674 new cases, 49,082 people were discharged in the last 24 hours. On Saturday, the number of new infections was 50,356.

Active cases below 5.5 lakh, new cases below 50,000

The average daily new cases has decreased to 46,000 cases from more than 73,000 new cases daily average in the first week of October. As there are more downloads than new infections, the number of active cases remains below 5.2 lakh. Currently, active cases account for 6.03 percent of all positive cases in India.

More recoveries than new infections

This trend has been observed for the past five weeks. This also played a key role in reducing the number of active cases, the Health Ministry said in its bulletin.

States reporting peak cases also report peak recoveries

Kerala and Delhi are witnessing a sudden increase in the number of cases and Maharashtra has moved to third place when it comes to the highest number of new cases. But these three states are also contributing the most to the number of higher recoveries. Maharashtra reports more than 10,000 recoveries per day. Kerala and Delhi have recoveries of around 7,000 and 6,000, respectively.

West Bengal ranks fourth on the recovery table, according to Saturday’s data.

10 states / UT reporting 83% new deaths

According to data on Saturday, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Odisha reported 83 percent of the new deaths between Friday and Saturday.
