India registers 44,059 new infections in the last 24 hours, 2.5% less than yesterday


India recorded 44,059 fresh Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, recording a 2.5% drop in new cases recorded on Sunday. The new cases bring the total count to more than 9.13 million, including 511 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases remains well below the 4.5 lakh mark. On Monday, the number of active cases in India stood at 4.43,486, which is just 4.85 percent of the total count.

On Sunday, there were 45,209 new infections and 501 deaths.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a video conference with the state’s top ministers on Tuesday as Covid-19 has resurfaced in some states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh. Nighttime curfews and short-term lockdowns have also returned in many cities.

The Covid-19 situation in Delhi has worsened as, among the more than 500 national daily tolls, Delhi contributes more than 100.
