India records 44,684 fresh Covid-19 cases, count surpasses 8.77 million


On Saturday, India recorded 44,684 new cases of the coronavirus disease, bringing the national count to 8,773,479, according to the Union Ministry of Health.

The number of active cases is 480,719, while 81,635.72 patients have been discharged from hospitals, data from the Ministry of Health showed at 8 am.

India also reported 520 recent deaths due to the disease that brought the death toll to 129,188.

The Health Ministry had said on Friday that active Covid-19 cases in India remained below five lakhs, or 5.55 percent of the total number of cases. This has been possible thanks to the tendency of Covid-19 recoveries to exceed new cases, which has ensured a total net reduction in the load of active cases, he stressed.

The ministry also said that the recovery rate has reached 92.97 percent. He also said that it is observed that 77.83 percent of the new cases recovered are concentrated in 10 states and territories of the union.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday that it will establish a global center for traditional medicine in India. The announcement was made by the Director General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, through a video message.

“This new center will support WHO’s efforts to implement the WHO Traditional Medicine Strategy 2014-2023, which aims to help countries develop policies and action plans to strengthen the role of traditional medicine as part of your path to universal health coverage and healthier and fairer health coverage. and a safer world, ”said Ghebreyesus.

The WHO chief also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his commitment to universal coverage under Ayushman Bharat and the evidence-based promotion of traditional medicines to achieve health-related goals.

Prime Minister Modi praised the announcement and expressed confidence that, just as the country has become the “pharmacy of the world,” the WHO institution will become a center for global well-being.
