India’s women’s cricket team has qualified for the 2021 Women’s Cricket World Cup to be held in New Zealand, the International Cricket Council announced on Wednesday.

India along with hosts New Zealand, Australia, England and South Africa are 5 teams that have sealed a direct place for the quadrennial World Cup for over 50 years. The Women’s World Cup will be played from February 6 to March 7 in 2021.

The ICC made the announcement after its “Technical Committee (TC) decided that the teams will share points in all three series in the ICC Women’s Championship that did not take place during the competition period” – 2017 to 2020.

India, who reached the final at the 2017 Women’s World Cup, won 10 matches and lost 8 of the 21 who have played in the current cycle of the ICC Women’s Championship.

The Indian team led by Mithali Raj last played an ODI series in November 2019. They returned from behind to beat the West Indies in the West Indies 2-1 in a 3-game series.

“Australia (37 points), England (29), South Africa (25) and now India (23) have ranked by virtue of being the top four. Pakistan (19), New Zealand (17), West Indies (13) and Sri Lanka (5) completes the table, “said an ICC statement.

“The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier is scheduled to be played July 3-19 in Sri Lanka, this is subject to revision due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The 10 teams competing for the remaining three places in the ICC 2021 Women’s Cricket World Cup will host, Sri Lanka, along with Pakistan and the West Indies of the ICC Women’s Championship, the other two teams with ODI status, Bangladesh and Ireland, and the winners of the five regional qualifiers: Thailand (Asia), Zimbabwe (Africa), Papua New Guinea (Pacific East Asia), the United States of America (America) and the Netherlands (Europe). “

Technical committee on series canceled between India and Pakistan

“The India-Pakistan series was originally scheduled in the sixth round of the competition, between July and November 2019, but despite the best efforts of both Boards, it could not be carried out,” the statement added.

“Regarding the India v Pakistan series, the Technical Committee concluded that the series could not be reproduced due to a Force Majeure event after BCCI demonstrated that it was unable to obtain the necessary government authorizations to allow India to participate in the bilateral series against Pakistan that is part of the ICC Women’s Championship.

“Meanwhile, two other series of the ICC Women’s Championship have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. South Africa would host Australia and Sri Lanka would host New Zealand in the last round of matches.”
