NEW DELHI: Director-General for Health Services represented India at the video conference of Saarc health ministers at Covid-19 hosted by Pakistan on Thursday. Most of the other Saarc countries were represented at the official level.
This event followed India’s previous initiative to host a video conference of high-level health professionals on March 26, which had proven to be a productive and results-oriented exercise to promote further regional cooperation against Covid-19 The government said in a statement.
“On the part of India, based on the briefing held at the videoconference on March 26, a detailed report was presented on India’s comprehensive response to the current situation of Covid-19, including India intensifying production of essential materials and drugs and enhances drug and vaccine research capabilities, “the government said.
At the meeting, India also highlighted the “successful use and promising future” of new and innovative technology-based solutions such as the “Aarogya Setu” mobile application to maximize community outreach and engagement.
“The feeling of cooperation and solidarity in the region intensified by Prime Minister Modi’s video conference with Saarc leaders on March 15 has led to great progress in the fight against Covid-19 through a series of concrete follow-up measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of the people of the region: the creation and use of the Saarc Covid-19 Emergency Fund, the creation of a dedicated website developed by the Saarc Disaster Management Center (SDMC-IU) Gandhinagar and promoting independent networks of health and commerce officials for their real-time interaction is among the visible practical steps, “the government said.
India has developed an electronic platform, “Saarc Covid-19 Information Exchange Platform” for use by all Saarc countries. As an important next step, the platform will be launched for the exchange of specialized information and tools on Covid-19 among designated health professionals in the region.
