Mr. Modi addressed the closing session of the 80th All India Board Conference by videoconference. Apart from these two issues, the Prime Minister also asked the Presidents who attended the meeting to apply their minds to simplify the language of the bylaws and allow an easier process to eliminate redundant laws.

“One nation, one choice” is not only a matter of deliberation, but also a necessity of the country. Elections are held in different places every few months and it hampers development work and you all know it. Therefore, it is imperative to have an in-depth study and deliberation on ‘One nation, one choice,’ ”he said.

In a voter list, he observed, “A voter list should only be used for Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha and other elections. Why are we wasting time and money? “

Emphasizing the need for coordination between the three branches of the state – Legislature, Executive and Judicial, he affirmed that everything, from their role to their decorum, was described in the Constitution itself.

“In the 1970s, we saw an attempt to violate the dignity of the separation of powers, but the country only got the answer from the Constitution. After that period of emergency, the system of checks and balances grew stronger and stronger. The legislature, the executive and the judiciary, all three, learned a lot from that period and made progress, “he said.

Dam work

Mr. Modi used very strong words to describe the work of his then Gujarat government to complete the Sardar Sarovar dam, an example being how “politics were allowed to overshadow the national interest.”

He said: “We must remember that when politics takes hold of the people and the nation’s policies first, the nation has to pay adversely in such situations. Is [completion of Sardar Sarovar Dam] it could have happened earlier if development had been prioritized. Those who stalled it, do not regret it ”.

Speaking of Sardar Patel’s Unity Statue, Modi noted that it was built by his government even though Patel was not from the BJP or Jana Sangh.

“The Constitution is our beacon to face the challenges of the 21st century, and the national interest must be our basis for every decision,” he urged.

The biggest terrorist attack

He recalled that the Mumbai attacks on 11/26 occurred on the same day in 2008 and stated that India was fighting terrorism now with a “new policy and a new process.” He noted that 11/26 was the largest terrorist attack in the country. “India will never be able to forget the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 11/26 and is now fighting terrorism with ‘nai neeti aur reeti ke sath’ [new policy and way]”, I observe.

The All India Board Conference began in 1921, and the Gujarat event marks its centennial year. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Harmonious Coordination Between the Legislative, Executive and Judicial Power: Key to a Vibrant Democracy’.
