Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates recognizes the key role that India is likely to play in making the coronavirus vaccine. “India is a leading producer of vaccines; we need the cooperation of India in manufacturing the COVID-19 vaccine,” Bill Gates told PTI.
“We all want to get a vaccine out of India as quickly as possible, once we know that it is very effective and very safe,” Gates added.
Bill Gates also expects the covid vaccine to be launched from India next year. “The launch of the COVID-19 vaccine is very likely to take place in quite a large volume (in India) sometime next year,” said Bill Gates.
“I am quite optimistic that by the first quarter of next year, several of the COVID-19 vaccines will have the final stage,” Gates said.
“India’s willingness to play a major role in making vaccines and shipping some of these to developing countries will be critical,” said Bill Gates.
Due to national efforts, COVID-19 related deaths have been capped at 55 per million population, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said on Monday.
Speaking at the Lok Sabha, the Union minister also said that cases per million inhabitants in the country have also been limited to 3,328 in the country.
