India May Have 40,000 Active Covid Cases In February, Says Harsh Vardhan

A day after a central government-appointed panel said that the coronavirus pandemic in India has peaked and could even be brought under control in February next year, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said the Monday that by February 2021, India would have 40,000 active cases of Covid-19 if the appropriate behavior for the coronavirus is followed.

The Health Minister attributed the figure to a prediction made by scientists.

“The Ministry of Science and Technology got scientists around the world to make prediction models of cases. Research based on their techniques found that appropriate COVID behavior for 3-4 months will lead to a downward trend in India and by February we will have 40,000 active cases, Harsh Vardhan said, according to the ANI news agency.

When the time comes, state and central governments will need to coordinate vaccination procedures, staff training and other logistics, Vardhan said.

“Vaccination procedures, staff training and other logistics need to be coordinated by state and central governments when the time comes. We believe India will make sure not to allow COVID19 cases to increase and the slow decline trend that we are seeing. It will remain”. the Minister of Health also said.

On Sunday, the Center said that if all protocols are followed, the pandemic can be brought under control early next year with minimal active symptomatic infections by the end of February.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases remained below eight lakh for the third day in a row today and accounted for 10.45% of total cases.

There are 77,20,55 active cases of coronavirus infection to date. The total number of recoveries has increased to 66,63,608 and exceeds active cases by 5,891,553, according to the Union Ministry of Health.

The death toll rose to 11,46,10 and the virus claimed 579 lives in the past 24 hours.

The Covid recovery rate in the country improved to 88.03%, the ministry said.

The one-day death toll from covid -19 is the lowest since July 19.

A total of 66,399 coronavirus patients have recovered and discharged in one day, while 55,722 new infections were reported during the same period, according to data from the Health Ministry.
