Maruti Suzuki Jimny five-door will likely go on sale early next year and is expected to run on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) introduced the fourth-generation Jimny at Auto Expo 2020 in February and, as expected, gained a lot of attention. The Jimny is sold in two variants in Japan: the kei-compliant model and a longer version of Sierra. The latter is the one sold in Europe with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine.
Speculation surrounding Jimny’s entry into India has been around for quite some time, and to meet the demands of foreign customers, the Jimny Euro-spec will first be manufactured locally. However, the India-bound version will have its quota of changes, as it will obviously be a five-door SUV upon arrival early next year.
The representation published here will be more or less like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 2021. We must say that the digital image of the five-door Jimny standing at a service station has been realistically reproduced. Reports suggest that Jimny, the Indian specification, will not extend beyond four meters in length, but the rendering seems a bit longer for reference from the side angle.
The country’s largest automaker could position Jimny with a starting price of just under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete against the second generation Mahindra Thar and the next Force Gurkha. Two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations could be offered, and in that way the SUV could appeal to a large band of customers.
As for the exterior, expect the design elements of the three-door Jimny to carry over, wait for minor adjustments as the upright position and tall pillars representing traditional SUV attire will be maintained. Expect India’s spec version to fit the economy, too. The K15B 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine is now available on the Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and Vitara Brezza models.
In 2021 Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it could continue to produce 104.7 PS and 138 Nm. Both the five-speed manual transmission and the four-speed torque converter automatic transmission are expected to be on the cards. The 4WD system is likely to be restricted to AT variants in higher versions. It will be sold exclusively at Nexa premium points of sale.
