India extends suspension of flights to the UK until January 7


NEW DELHI: Flights between India and the UK will now remain suspended until January 7, 2021. The government has decided to extend the suspension from December 23 to December 31 for one more week in the wake of the new and more infectious strain of coronavirus.
“A decision has been made to extend the temporary suspension of flights to and from the UK until January 7, 2021. Thereafter, a strictly regulated resumption will take place, details of which will be announced shortly,” he tweeted on Wednesday aviation minister HS Puri.

India-UK has 67 weekly flights operated by four airlines: Air India, Vistara, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Almost 2,000-2,500 passengers used to travel daily on these flights.

“We went back to November 25 and did contact tracing and genie sequencing of passengers who had come directly or indirectly from the UK since then. So far, six people who came from the UK have been reported to have been detected with the new Covid strain, ”Puri said on Tuesday.
