India enters Unlocking 4: what is open, what remains closed


India issued new lockdown guidelines on ‘Unlock 4’ on Saturday, allowing for more activities to open in areas outside the containment zones, marking the gradual opening up of the country and economy amid the outbreak of the disease by coronavirus (Covid-19).

While the MHA order allows for some gradual reopening of activities in the fourth round of unlocking, it has continued to extend the lockdown on containment zones through September 30.

A statement from the MHA said the new guidelines are based on feedback received from states and UT and extensive consultations with related central ministries and departments.

This is what is allowed in Unlock 4:

• Social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious and political functions and other congregations will be allowed with a maximum limit of 100 people, starting on September 21.

• Open air theaters will be allowed from September 21.

• Beginning September 21, outside of the containment zones, States / UTs can allow up to 50 percent of teaching and non-teaching staff to be called into schools at the same time for online teaching / tele-counseling and jobs. related.

• The metro train will be allowed to operate from September 7 in a staggered manner.

• There will be no restrictions on the interstate and intrastate movement of people and goods. No separate electronic permission / approval / permission will be required for such moves.

What remains closed:

• Schools, universities, educational and training institutions will continue to be closed for students and regular class activity until September 30.

• Movie theaters, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theaters will remain closed.

• International air travel, except as permitted by the MHA, will remain suspended.
