New York:

India on Tuesday criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his comments on Kashmir during the UN General Assembly (UNGA) session, saying the latter’s speech constitutes “major interference” in India’s internal affairs and it is “completely unacceptable”.

On Twitter hours after Erdogan criticized the Kashmir issue at the UNGA, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, TS Tirumurti, said Ankara should learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and reflect on its policies more deeply.

“We have seen comments from the President of Turkey about India UT of Jammu and Kashmir. They constitute a serious interference in the internal affairs of India and are completely unacceptable. Turkey must learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and reflect on its policies more deeply. “said Mr. Tirumurti tweeted.

On the second day of the high-level UNGA, the Turkish president said: “The Kashmir conflict, which is also key to the stability and peace of South Asia, remains a hot topic.”

In a pre-recorded statement, the leader said that it is imperative to resolve the Kashmir issue through dialogue. “We are in favor of solving this problem through dialogue within the framework of United Nations resolutions, especially in line with the expectations of the Kashmiri people,” Erdogan added.

In the past year, Pakistan’s ally Turkey has used various platforms to raise the Jammu and Kashmir issue. Yet India has, time and again, told the West Asian country that the Kashmir issue is an internal Indian affair.

Last week, India criticized Pakistan, Turkey and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the 46th session of the Human Rights Council for their comments on India’s internal affairs.

In response to Turkey’s reference to Jammu and Kashmir, India in its right to reply had advised Turkey to refrain from commenting on the internal affairs of India and to develop a better understanding of democratic practices.
