India concludes first round of tests for a missile that can fire a plane from 30 km away

India on Friday successfully tested all-weather rapid-reaction surface-to-air missiles that have a range of 30 km, concluding development tests that had continued for the past several years. In the next phase, the army and air force will test the short-range missile before it goes into production and induction by the army.

The sophisticated missile was tested around 3.40pm from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur near here. It successfully destroyed the target, people familiar with the matter said.

The missile, which can hit an air target navigating at an altitude of 15 km, is launched from a mobile two-vehicle system; one carries the missile and the second, the radar that helps to acquire the targets. Because it is mobile, it can stay on the move and evade enemy counterattacks.

The radar can simultaneously track 100 targets and strike 6 targets.

The first trial of the QRSAM was conducted on June 4, 2017.
