India-China Border Tension: Brigade Commanders Level Meeting Underway | India News

Latest outbreak of tensions is reported from the southern shore of Pangong Tso

NEW DELHI: The meeting of the Indian Army Brigade Commander with his Chinese counterpart is underway in Chushul/ Moldo to discuss issues related to the situation on the southern shore of Pangong Lake, Indian army sources said.
The meeting came after the Indian army thwarted an attempt by the Chinese army to transgress in Indian areas near the south bank of the river. Pangong Tso near Chushul in Ladakh on the middle night of Saturday and Sunday.
“On the night of August 29-30, PLA troops violated the previous consensus reached during military and diplomatic clashes during the ongoing clash in eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo,” Army spokesman Colonel Aman Anand said in a statement Monday.
The Indian army took steps to strengthen its position and “and thwart Chinese intentions to unilaterally change the facts on the ground.”
“The Indian Army is committed to maintaining peace and tranquility through dialogue, but is also equally determined to protect its territorial integrity. A flag meeting is being held at the brigade commander level in Chushul to solve the problems, “added Anand.
Army sources said that the Chinese army had tried to transgress the Indian areas using a considerable number of troops, but the Indian army learned of their intentions and anticipated the Chinese attempt and thwarted their move.
India and China have been in a clash since April-May over the Chinese army’s transgressions in multiple areas, including the Finger area, Galwan Valley, Hot Springs and Kongrung Nala.
Talks between the two sides have been ongoing for the past three months, including five talks at the lieutenant general level, but so far they have yielded no results.
The Chinese military has refused to withdraw or completely disconnect from the Finger area and appears to be buying time to delay its withdrawal from there.
While efforts are underway to resolve the ongoing border dispute, India has rejected the Chinese suggestion to withdraw equidistant from the Finger area in eastern Ladakh.
