Previously, KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya helped India cross the 300-run mark in the first ODI at MCA Stadium, Pune. While Krunal crashed undefeated with fifty percent on debut, KL Rahul returned to form and contributed his half century.

The duo added 111 of their 112 runs in the final nine overs when they sent the English bowlers on a hunt for leather. The 57-ball association saw the Indians change gears and take the driver’s seat in one day. Making his debut, Krunal now showed some nervousness and constantly pushed boundaries to help India advance quickly in the final overs. The southpaw also logged half a century in his first ODI and created the record for the fifty fastest ever scored by a rookie in ODI cricket – 26 balls.

Shikhar Dhawan scored 98, while India captain Kohli also scored a fifty. Both Kohli and Dhawan had 105 runs for the second wicket, and also saw Kohli go past 50. But in trying to accelerate further, skipper Kohli (56) ended up giving up his wicket to Mark Wood, reducing the hosts to 169/2 in the 33rd. Shreyas Iyer, who came out to bat at number four, failed to impress with the bat and left after scoring just six runs.

Ben Stokes and Mark Wood chose 3 and 2 plots respectively.

Meanwhile, England suffered twin injuries while filming: Sam Billings sprained his collarbone joint and Eoin Morgan split the membrane between his right thumb and forefinger and received four stitches.

Previously, the off-roader Krunal Pandya and the pacemaker Prasidh Krishna received debuts at ODI. While Kohli and company would like to continue their winning streak in the series, the Three Lions led by Eoin Morgan would like to get back on the winning track, as their ICC Ranking will be at stake. In the first ODI, Morgan won the toss and sent India at bat first.
