A record rise of 78,761 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours brought India’s Covid count to more than 35 lakh, the Union Health Ministry said this morning. This is the highest single-day increase in Covid infections reported by any country since the start of the pandemic. The United States set the previous record on July 17 with 77,638 daily cases, according to an AFP tally. In the last 24 hours, 948 deaths related to the highly contagious disease were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 63,498. About 27 lakh people have recovered so far; the recovery rate stood at 76.6 percent this morning.
