* The latest agreement was reached after the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan held discussions on the established mechanism of hotline contact.
* Both India and Pakistan have committed to following existing contact and border Schedule meetings to resolve any unforeseen or misunderstandings.
* “In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along borders, the two DGMOs agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns that tend to disturb the peace and lead to violence.
“Both parties agreed to the strict observance of all agreements, understandings and ceasefires along the Line of Control and all other sectors starting at midnight on February 24 and 25,” the joint statement read.
* India and Pakistan signed a ceasefire agreement in 2003, but it has hardly been carried out in letter and spirit.
* The two nations have regularly exchanged artillery and machine gun fire along the ceasefire line, and the pact has been violated multiple times.
* The government has said there have been a total of 10,752 cases of ceasefire violations along India’s border with Pakistan in the past three years, killing 72 security personnel and 70 civilians. .
