The border clash across LAC in Ladakh, where both sides have deployed tens of thousands of troops backed by artillery and armored vehicles, has entered its seventh month. Recent reports had suggested that the two sides are considering various proposals to cut troops at some sticking points, but have yet to make a breakthrough.

The eighth round of talks between the top military commanders of the two sides, which was held in Chushul on 6 November, was also joined by Deputy Secretary (East Asia) Naveen Srivastava of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The objective of these discussions is to ensure the total disconnection and the total restoration of peace and tranquility throughout LAC in the western sector,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said at a weekly press conference. .

“We will continue our dialogue and communication through military and diplomatic channels and we have also agreed to have another round of talks in the near future with a view to achieving this goal,” he added.

Srivastava described the discussions during the latest round of talks between the military commanders as “sincere, profound and constructive” and said that both sides had exchanged views on “the disconnection at all points of friction throughout LAC in the sector. western”.

The ninth round of talks between the military commanders was expected to take place last week, but the two sides have not yet finalized the dates for the meeting.

With no signs of immediate progress in efforts to withdraw troops, both India and China have made preparations for their forces to remain in place throughout LAC by building new accommodations to protect them from the harsh winter when temperatures drop. plummeting as low as less. 40 degrees centigrade.

The top leaders of India and China have participated in several virtual meetings this month, including summits of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa (Brics) grouping, and the Indian side called for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states.
