India and China hold ‘confidential’ talks to resolve border standoff, says Jaishankar

India and China are entering talks to resolve the border clash and what is happening is “something confidential” between the two sides, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Thursday.

“The discussions are underway; what is happening is something confidential between us and the Chinese, “said the minister while speaking at the Bloomberg India Economic Forum.

“There is not much I am in a position to say in public. I certainly don’t want to prejudge him, ”he added.

India and China wrapped up the seventh round of talks between senior military commanders on October 12. The two sides agreed to continue the dialogue process to reach a mutually acceptable solution for an early disengagement in eastern Ladakh, the two sides said in a joint press. statement.

“The two sides had a sincere, in-depth and constructive exchange of views on the disconnection along the Royal Line of Control in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas. They felt that these discussions were positive, constructive and had improved understanding of the positions of others, ”the statement said.

On the situation in Tibet, as well as developments throughout LAC, Jaishankar said: “I don’t think we should go into other issues that frankly have nothing to do with the current situation in Ladakh.” He said relations between India and China improved following the signing of a series of agreements since 1993 on maintaining peace and tranquility along the border.

“For the past 30 years, we have built a relationship based on peace and quiet along the border,” he said.

Jaishankar said that if peace and tranquility is not guaranteed and the signed agreements are not honored, that is the “main cause of disruption.”
