IND vs ENG: Cricket Fraternity reacts as Suryakumar Yadav’s long wait for Maiden India call ends



Suryakumar Yadav, after scoring tons of runs in IPL and national cricket, finally won an inaugural call-up for the Indian team as he was named to the Twenty 20 International (T20I) team for the five-game series against England. In addition to Suryakumar Yadav, his IPL teammate Ishan Kishan and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Rahul Tewatia were also selected to the team after impressing in the cash-rich league in Dubai last year. Suryakumar Yadav was one of the most prominent performers of the Mumbai Indians as they became IPL champions for the fifth time a record was extended. Fans have long been demanding his inclusion in the Indian team based on the performance of the IPL and the wishes of all quarters after he finally made the cut on Saturday. Former India fast bowler Irfan Pathan, RP Singh and veteran cricketer Harbhajan Sigh were among the first cricketers to congratulate Suryakumar Yadav after being chosen to the India T20I team.

“Finally, the wait is over for @ surya_14kumar, congratulations buddy. Goodluck @ ishankishan51 @ rahultewatia02 for your debut guys,” Irfan Pathan tweeted.

Harbhajan Singh, who was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2021 IPL auction, congratulated both Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan on winning their first call-up to the Indian team.

“Good finally @ surya_14kumar on Team India. Good luck,” Harbhajan’s tweet read.

Congratulating Ishan Kishan, who broke 173 runs with just 94 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, Harbhajan wrote: “Congratulations @ ishankishan51, so good to see you with the India team.”

“Congratulations to @ surya_14kumar, @ ishankishan51 and @ rahultewatia02 on coming to the Indian team for the first time. I wish you all a great future,” wrote RP Singh on Twitter.

India’s senior fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to the Indian team after a long injury layoff that kept him out of the India tour of Australia and the ongoing test series against England. Wicketkeeper hitter Rishabh Pant, who was not part of the T20I series in Australia, has also returned to the side, while fast pitcher Jasprit Bumrah has rested.

All five matches of the T20I series will be played at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, with the first T20I being played on March 12.
