South Australia reimposed social distancing restrictions on Monday after detecting 21 cases of the virus, most of which were acquired locally in Adelaide.
With neighboring states beginning to close borders with South Australia to try to contain the outbreak, Cricket Australia moved international players from its Twenty20 and one-day squads north to Sydney.
The India team is already in quarantine in Sydney preparing for six limited matches against Australia in November and December, followed by the four-test series, which is scheduled to begin at Adelaide Oval on December 17.
Cricket Australia said in a statement that it “remained committed” to playing the first test on the ground.
“CA has taken a proactive approach and mobilized multiple people across the country over the past 24 hours to shore up our men’s national and international schedules,” said Acting Executive Director Nick Hockley.
“CA will continue to monitor the situation in South Australia and the resulting border restrictions across the country.
“As always, we will remain agile to address the challenges posed by the pandemic and remain more confident than ever to host a safe and successful summer in all formats.”
The Adelaide Strikers and the other South Australian players preparing for the Big Bash League were also flown out of state to a training ground off the coast of New South Wales before the start of the Twenty20 national league on December 10. .
South Australia was more successful than New South Wales and Victoria in containing the virus when it first arrived in Australia and hosted the first four rounds of the Sheffield Shield national competition since mid-October.
