In the midst of a new controversy, Madhya Pradesh’s former minister for women’s and children’s development, Imarti Devi, who was referred to as an “article” by Kamal Nath of Congress, sparked outrage and protests in political circles. The ex-CM’s controversial statement was made in Dabra, where Devi once spent her life as a worker on farmland.
Devi, who had been a member of Congress for almost 23 years, hails from the village of Charbara in Dabra de Gwalior, where she is a three-time member of justice. The leader and her husband Puran Singh worked as farm laborers in the area in its early days. Although his educational credentials are debatable, based on his election affidavits, he has studied up to class 12.
A faithful follower of the then Congress satrap Jyotiraditya Scindia, Devi had joined politics in the 1990s and was appointed Senior Vice President of the Indian Youth Congress in 1997.
She was a member of the district panchayat between 2004 and 2009 and in 2005 she was appointed head of the Dabra Congress. She was also a member of the assembly committee of the library, was a patron of SC / ST Raksha Sangh and a member of Mahila evam Bal Kalyan Samiti in the past.
The 45-year-old leader was first named a minister in Kamal Nath’s cabinet in 2018 when she was handed the Women and Child Development portfolio, and when her ‘political mentor’ Scindia left the Congress party in March this year, he followed it. in the BJP.
Imarti Devi received the same portfolio in the Shivraj government and is seeking Dabra’s re-election against Suresh Raje, a former BJP leader who had left the party to join Congress.
Recently, Raje had questioned why her husband is never seen with her and a controversy ensued when the BJP had asked the congressional party to expel Raje from the party.
However, along with his political success, Imarti Devi also remains in controversy with his off-the-cuff comments. Recently, the media found her not wearing the mask despite Covid-19. She replied that she was born in the middle of mud and cow dung and that the virus could not affect her.
The leader had once said that he could clean any place with a broom if Maharaj (Scindia) asked him to. An outspoken leader, she had recently asked her party to make genuine promises in bypoll (Udghatan ke jhoothe nariyal mat fodna).
He had also responded to the head of the MPCC, Kamal Nath, for the “sold out” comment to the rebels in Congress, saying that he (Nath) used to offer Rs 20 lakh per month to those who were not appointed ministers in his government.
She was arrested by the police by court order in a complaint of domestic violence filed by Kranti Devi Jatav, wife of her nephew Amritlal in 2016.
Imarti Devi was seen crying on Monday, saying that Kamal Nath is a stranger to MP and does not know how to respect women.
