Lucknow:
The trust in charge of building a mosque in Ayodhya after last year’s Supreme Court verdict, which also paved the way for a Ram temple in the city of Uttar Pradesh, has published the first architectural plan for the project.
The first phase of the project, for which the foundation stone is likely to be laid early next year, will have a hospital alongside the mosque. The trust plans to expand the hospital in the second phase.
The name of the mosque has yet to be decided and it will not bear the name of any emperor or king, the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF) Trust said in a presentation of Ayodhya’s Dhannipur-based project.
At the presentation, the trust showcased the designs of various contemporary mosques around the world. A projected computer-generated image of the mosque shows a massive glass dome across a picturesque garden. The hospital building with a futuristic design is seen behind the mosque.
“The design echoes the modern architecture of mosques around the world,” the IICF Trust said in a statement. The construction plan on the 5 acre parcel was presented by Professor SM Akhtar at the IICF Trust office in Lucknow.
“Professor Pushpesh Pant, consultant and curator of the site’s archives and museum, mentioned the need for a good museum to show the joint achievements and struggles of the Hindu and Muslim communities in India,” the IICF Trust said in the statement. .
“The hospital will provide state-of-the-art facilities, much needed in the nearby area and population, and will focus on malnutrition of children and pregnant women. The building will also house the trust office and publication house that will focus on the House of research and publication of Studies of Indo-Islamic Cultural Literature, “said the trust.
In ordering a “proper” five-acre parcel in Ayodhya, the Supreme Court had said this was necessary because the court must ensure that wrongdoing is repaired. “Tolerance and mutual coexistence feed the secular commitment of our nation and its people,” the judges said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Ayodhya after 29 years in August this year for the “Bhoomi Pujan” or dedication ceremony of the Ram temple. Prime Minister Modi, who in 1990 was one of the organizers of the national campaign for a temple on the site where the 16th-century Babri Mosque once stood, laid a silver brick as part of the dedication ceremony.
