The overall difference was about 84,900 votes, a small margin in most state results. Overall, the ruling NDA won 125 seats, against 110 seats for the opposition alliance.

The result was announced at 4 a.m. on Wednesday after nearly 20 hours of excited counting.

Late at night, when the RJD fell behind the BJP after several ups and downs, the party claimed that the opposition alliance had won 119 seats.

By posting a list on Twitter, the party claimed that the winners were being denied their certificates because of a conspiracy by Prime Minister Nitish Kumar and his administration, which was putting pressure on the Election Commission.

In response, the commission, during an overnight briefing, said that when RJD’s claim was tweeted, only 146 results were reported, indicating that the alliance’s claim was not feasible.

This morning, Prime Minister Nitish Kumar, who got a fourth consecutive term thanks to the generosity of the BJP, tweeted his thanks to the people and his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The people decide. I bow to them for giving the NDA the majority. I am also grateful for the support of Prime Minister Modi,” Kumar tweeted.
