West Bengal Prime Minister Mamata Banerjee announced Tuesday that the Covid-19 red zones in the state will be divided into three categories. The CM added that there will be more relaxation in these areas.

“The red zones would be divided into three categories. Measures will also be taken to restart the 100-day work schedule in non-containment areas, “said Mamata Banerjee.

There are at least 566 containment zones in the state. Of these, Kolkata has 326 containment areas.

Banerjee claimed that people were facing problems since the blockade was imposed on March 25, as the measure was “poorly planned.”

“Don’t think that we will soon be relieved from the Covid-19 crisis. We should have a short three-month plan to address the situation,” he said after a review meeting with state officials.

Speaking about his interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his video conference with the chief ministers on Monday, Banerjee said Bengal did not win anything from the meeting and was left empty-handed.

The Center has yet to eliminate “legitimate financial fees” from the state, he said.

“I have raised several problems during the meeting with the Prime Minister. But I must say that we always come back empty-handed after our meetings with the Prime Minister. We still have to collect our dues, “said the prime minister.

Referring to the communal clashes that erupted in the Hooghly district last week, Banerjee said action will be taken against those found guilty.

“Severe measures will be taken against those involved in communal clashes in the midst of the closure. No one will be saved if found guilty, “he added.
