ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will test Covid-19 amid fears he has contracted the new coronavirus from a philanthropist who called him last week to donate Rs 1 crore to the Prime Minister’s Coronavirus Relief Fund.
Edhi met with Prime Minister Khan on April 15 at the Prime Minister’s office. None of them wore masks and gloves at the time of the meeting.
Faisal Edhi, president of the Karachi-based Edhi Foundation and son of the late and revered philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan agreed to be tested for the coronavirus after meeting with someone (Faisal Edhi) who tested positive for the virus,” said Dr. Faisal Sultan, Khan’s personal physician and his adviser at Covid-19. Mohammad Bilal, a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation, said Edhi underwent a Covid-19 test Sunday at Alshifa Hospital in Islamabad.
“We feel that he contracted the virus in Islamabad as it has been there for a week. He was not feeling well since he had a fever. He (Faisal Edhi) said he felt the fever was out of the ordinary, “said Bilal. Edhi has been quarantined at the Edhi Home in Islamabad.
“We have not tested anyone in Karachi yet, nor have we tested his family members here (Karachi),” the spokesperson added.
Edhi has been at the forefront of fighting the coronavirus pandemic with his charity. He is also a member of the Sindh coronavirus emergency fund.
