Mumbai:

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that there would be anarchy in the country if the BJP remained interested only in overthrowing governments rather than improving the nation’s economy.

Addressing the annual Dussehra rally on the Seine, Thackeray challenged the BJP to overthrow his 11-month-old government and also asked it to first protect his government in the Center.

“Instead of the ” no alternative ” factor as was the case before, people have now started to think that anyone will do it except you,” Thackeray said, without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Instead of working to improve the economy, steps are being taken to overthrow governments. We are heading towards anarchy,” he said, adding that Shiv Sena was not eager for power.

“Although the country is facing a pandemic, how can one go into politics? Shiv Senas Hindutva is being questioned. The Maharashtra government and the Mumbai police are being vilified,” he said.

Citing RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s speech in Nagpur earlier in the day, Mr. Thackeray said, “The RSS chief said that Hindutva has been reduced to just observing puja rituals.”

“Those who wear black caps like him should understand this if they have brains,” Thackeray said, in a veiled attack on Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for his comments on Hindutva while calling for the reopening of places of religious worship.

“I’m not happy to close places. The lifting of restrictions is being done cautiously and gradually,” he said.

He said Bihar’s chief minister Nitish Kumar, in alliance with the BJP, had once called for a “Sangh-mukt Bharat” and had also sought a “secular face” in 2014 as a candidate for BJP prime minister.

“Has Nitish put on Hindutva robes or has BJP gone secular now,” Thackeray said.

He also criticized Kangana Ranaut for equating Mumbai with Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

“People who have no livelihood at home come to Mumbai and betray it. Calling Mumbai a PoK is indeed the failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said that he would return the PoK to India,” Thackeray said.

He said that Maharashtra haters have left no stone unturned to smear the state.

The annual Dussehra rally on the Seine was held at the Savarkar hall in Dadar due to coronavirus regulations rather than the usual venue, the sprawling Shivaji Park, also in the Dadar area.

“Those who cry out for justice for the son of Bihar are allowing themselves the murder of the character of the son of Maharashtra,” Thackeray said, breaking his silence on the accusations against his son Aaditya Thackeray in the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput.

Thackeray said the time has come to reconsider the current GST system and, if necessary, modify it, as states are not benefiting from this system.
