President's health improvement after bypass surgery, transferred from ICU

President Kovind, 75, had undergone heart bypass surgery at the AIIMS in Delhi on March 30.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who underwent successful heart bypass surgery at the AIIMS Delhi earlier this week, was transferred to a special ward of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Rashtrapati Bhavan said, adding that his health has continually improved.

“President Kovind was transferred from the ICU to a special ward at AIIMS today. His health has continuously improved. Doctors are constantly monitoring his condition and have advised him to rest,” he tweeted.

President Kovind, 75, had undergone heart bypass surgery at the AIIMS in Delhi on March 30. The president had undergone the operation after a medical check-up after complaining of chest discomfort.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Interior Minister Amit Shah were among those who wanted Kovind’s speedy recovery. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was then on a two-day trip to Bangladesh, had also called President Kovind’s son to ask about his health.

One day after the surgery, President Kovind tweeted that he was recovering well and thanked the doctors and caregivers for taking care of him.

“I have been recovering well after bypass surgery, thanks to the incredible dedication of the doctors and caregivers. I am moved by the messages from citizens and leaders in India and abroad wishing me a speedy recovery. It is difficult to express with words My thanks to all of you! ”President Kovind tweeted from the official account.
