The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red alert for Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts on December 3 in view of the proximity of tropical cyclone Burevi.
An orange alert has already been issued for the Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts of the state earlier today. It had issued a yellow alert on Tuesday.
Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has discussed the cyclone situation with Prime Minister Modi and briefed him on the arrangements made by the state. The state governments of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are reportedly prepared for the changing situation.

1) Cyclone Burevi is highly likely to hit the coast of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on the morning of December 4, IMD’s Cyclone Warning Division said.
2) Burevi position: 470 km east-southeast of Pamban and 650 km east of Kanniyakumari at 5.30 am over the Bay of Bengal.

7) The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) and the Civil Supply Departments have been instructed to supply electricity, water and food to the camps if necessary.
8) The Department of Hydrology has been requested to control the water levels in the main rivers of in view of the possibility of heavy rains.
9) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami, has urged the population of the southern districts, where there is a warning of heavy rain and winds between 1 and 4 December, to stay indoors.
