New Delhi: A misstep in a job advertisement for the position of dog trainer posted by the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi generated a stir on social media, prompting the institute to issue a clarification and cancel the recruitment.
On August 26, IIT-Delhi had applied for the dog trainer position, and the notice stated that the eligibility criteria was “BA / B.Sc / B.Com / B.Tech or any equivalent university degree.” This caused a storm on social media.
In a statement issued on September 6, the institute said: “In reference to a job advertisement dated 08-26-2020 for a position titled ‘Dog Handler’ (purely by contract), IIT Delhi would like to clarify that the qualification minimal as mentioned in the ad, was inadvertently copied from another job ad. “
The intended qualification in the ad was ‘Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences’, he said, adding that the recruitment process was canceled after the error was reported to higher authorities.
“In due course, a new process will begin to hire a Consultant (purely by contract) with the appropriate minimum qualification required for the job profile that involves the proper care of a large number of stray dogs on campus (assisting them such as vaccinations, medications, intravenous drip, etc. and food), handling of problems and challenges related to stray dogs, liaison with the campus community: students, employees, construction workers, etc., local government agencies and NGOs ” the statement read.
